Loading & Transportation – Driver Responsibilities

Armour Landscape Centre provides assistance with loading. However, it is the responsibility of the driver or your company’s representative to count, inspect, and approve all plant material and quantities before leaving the nursery. The driver is also responsible for proper load securement and safe transportation of all materials.

    Important Guidelines:

    •       Ensure vehicles or trailers have adequate space for plant material to be safely loaded.
    •       If you have any special loading or packaging requests (pallets, crates, etc.), please notify us in advance. Special packaging may be subject to additional charges.
    •       Armour Landscape Centre staff will load trucks and trailers according to best practices and experience unless otherwise instructed by your driver.
    •       The driver must provide appropriate tarps, straps, and tie-down equipment and is responsible for securing the load for safe transportation.
    •       Even when staff assist with loading and securing large loads, the driver remains legally responsible for verifying proper load securement.
    •       Tarping orders is strongly recommended to protect plant material during transportation.
    •       Flag tape for oversized loads is available in the office upon request.
    •       To prevent windburn and transport damage, travelling at speeds greater than 60 km/hr is not recommended.

Armour Landscape Centre staff reserve the right to refuse loading of any vehicle or trailer deemed unsafe.

    Returns & Exchanges Policy

Armour Landscape Centre may accept returns or exchanges on potted plant material from Wholesale Contractors under the following conditions and at the discretion of staff:

    •       Potted plant material must be returned or exchanged within 48 hours of pickup.
    •       Plant material must be in the original saleable condition in which it left the nursery, as determined by Armour Landscape Centre staff (undamaged, properly watered, not planted or removed from pot, container in good condition, etc.).
    •       Armour Landscape Centre is not responsible for and will not accept returns or exchanges due to damage caused by improper loading, travel, strapping, tarp use, or transportation.
    •       Returns or exchanges are subject to a 20% restocking fee.
    •       Returns or exchanges are subject to a 5% merchant processing fee.
    •       Approved refunds will be issued as nursery credit only.

We do NOT accept returns or exchanges on Caliper/Wire Basket trees once they have left the nursery, as removal and rehandling can cause significant root damage.

    City of Edmonton Specifications

Armour Landscape Centre does not guarantee that trees will automatically meet City of Edmonton specifications.

    •       Wholesale clients are required to select their own trees for City of Edmonton projects.
    •       If staff believe selected trees may not meet City specifications, we will advise accordingly.
    •       Advance notice is required if a City of Edmonton representative needs to inspect and tag trees.

    Warranty

All wholesale and discounted plants from Armour Landscape Centre are sold as received. We ensure that plants are true to name and in good condition at pickup, but no additional guarantees are provided. Proper care, handling, and planting are the responsibility of the customer to ensure healthy growth.

Tree & Shrub Installation FAQs — Edmonton

Do I need a permit to plant trees in Edmonton ?
Generally, no permit is required for planting trees or shrubs on private residential property. However, trees must not be planted within utility rights-of-way, drainage swales, or easements. Certain developments or HOA communities may have planting restrictions.
What is the best time to plant trees and shrubs in Edmonton ?
Spring (after soil thaw) and early fall are ideal. These seasons allow roots to establish before extreme summer heat or winter frost.
How deep should a tree be planted?
Trees should be planted so the root flare (where trunk widens at the base) is visible at or slightly above finished grade. Planting too deep is a common cause of failure.
Do newly planted trees need staking ?
Not always. Staking is recommended for larger caliper trees or windy locations. Stakes should be removed after one growing season to encourage natural trunk strength.
How often should newly planted trees and shrubs be watered ?
During establishment (first 1–2 years):
· Deep watering 1–2 times per week depending on rainfall
· Evergreens may require watering into late fall before freeze-up
What type of soil is best for planting in Edmonton ?
Edmonton soils often contain clay. Amending soil with compost and ensuring proper drainage improves root development and prevents waterlogging.
How far apart should shrubs be planted ?
Spacing depends on mature size. Shrubs should be planted based on their expected full width to avoid overcrowding and poor air circulation.
Do you provide plant selection guidance ?
Yes. We select species suited to Edmonton’s hardiness zone, sunlight exposure, soil conditions, and long-term landscape goals.
How long does installation take ?
Most residential planting projects take 1–3 days depending on quantity and site conditions.
What affects the cost of tree and shrub installation ?
Plant size and species
· Quantity
· Access to property
· Soil preparation requirements
· Mulch and decorative finishing
· Staking or root ball support
Each project is site-specific and quoted accordingly.
