Description
Masonry sand is a finely graded, washed, and screened sand most commonly used for preparing mortar in brick, block, and stone construction. Its clean, uniform texture allows for smooth mixing and consistent results, making it suitable for use with products such as Sakrete, as well as for pointing, stucco work, paver joints, and general leveling applications. In addition to construction uses, it is also popular in landscaping settings, including sandboxes and playground areas.
This sand is the industry standard for producing mortar for masonry walls because of its consistent particle size and workability. It is frequently used as a leveling layer or base beneath pavers, patio stones, and retaining wall systems, where it compacts easily and evenly. Masonry sand is also ideal for filling narrow joints in brickwork, plastering, and stucco finishes. Its soft, clean feel makes it appropriate for recreational uses such as playgrounds and volleyball courts, and it is commonly applied as a top-dressing material to level uneven lawns. However, due to its fine grading, masonry sand is not recommended for structural concrete mixes, as it may reduce overall strength.
